Healthcare Experience

Shadowing                                                       2013-2014

  • Shadowed a Physician’s Assistant as well as the orthopedic surgeons at UCONN health center. Saw patients with injuries in the knee, shoulder, hip and hand. Learned how to take pre-ops, post-ops and saw a lot of different diagnoses (including carpal tunnel, arthritis, and ACL tears). Also shadowed in the PCU/cath lab in fall of 2014.

Athletic Training Internship                 2014

  • Was as an aide to the athletic trainers on campus. Helped the student athletes stretch and taught them how to do exercises to help regain strength. Performed several ultrasounds and electric stimulations a day for the athletes. 

Camp Yawgoog Health Lodge

Emergency Medical Technician                  2014

  • Worked alongside a doctor and PA to ensure that the boyscouts/leaders were healthy and safe. Duties included first aid, suturing and medication administration.

URI Emergency Medical Services

  • Respond to medical emergencies on campus as well as the surrounding areas. Obtain patient histories, take vital signs, decide additional resources needed and perform interventions to better the outcome of my patient. Transfer care to a receiving facility as well as write a detailed report of each incident.

Miriam Center for Cardiac Fitness

Cardiac Rehab Intern                                     2014

  • Observe exercise physiologists working with cardiopulmonary rehab. Duties include taking vitals before and after exercise, preparation of 12 lead EKG’s, administering stress tests, be involved in intakes and help create and progress an individualized exercise prescription.
