About ME:

My name is Alison Lovkay and I am a senior at the University of Rhode Island. I am majoring in kinesiology with a concentration in exercise science. I will also be graduating with a minor in biology. In April of 2015, I will begin to apply to grad schools to pursue a Masters of Science in Physician Assistant and I hope to one day work as a cardiology PA. I didn't always want to pursue a career in the healthcare field but it is through my personal experiences with PA's and my own experience as an EMT-B that I have fallen inlove with this extremely rewarding field.

When I went for an interview at The Center of Cardiac Fitness at The Miriam Hospital, I knew that this facility would be a great fit for me. A big part of getting into PA school is having direct patient care experience and I knew this would be a great way to work with patients in a different environment than what I am used to. From someone who has seen patients during their cardiac event, I was interested in seeing what happens after. I knew that this internship would give me the knowledge, experience and professionalism that I needed to gain before pursuing the rest of my healthcare career. I am so thankful for everything that this internship has taught me. I have built amazing relationships with patients and learned more than I could have ever imagined just by hearing their stories. I want to thank each and every one of them for opening up to me about their lives. It is been so rewarding to see them grow stronger and healthier each and every day.

This portfolio shows insight to my time here as an intern at The Miriam Hospital. It illustrates several topics that were pertinent to patients everyday. It also highlights one of my patients, "Patient A", to show the progression and success that can be made in only 12 weeks.
